We bring you some interesting statistics from day one of
Women's Rugby World Cup 2010.
- Defending champions New Zealand, hosts England, Australia,
Canada, France and USA all enjoyed victories on the opening day,
which was played before a sell-out crowd at Surrey Sports Park.
- France was the only victorious side not to pick up a
try-scoring bonus point, although England and Australia both left
it until the dying minutes to score their fourth try.
- Sweden were the only side to pick up a losing bonus point.
- A total of 245 points were scored across the six matches, the
fewest tally on the opening day of a Women's Rugby World Cup
dating back to 1998.
- Canada flanker Barbara Mervin scored the first try of
Women's Rugby World Cup 2010 after only 10 minutes of their
37-10 defeat of Scotland.
- Anna Schnell had the honour of scoring the first points of the
tournament, the Canada fly half kicking a penalty after seven
minutes in their opening Pool C match against Scotland.
- USA fly half Christy Ringgenberg ended day one as the leading
point scorer with a 26-point haul in the Women's Eagles'
51-0 defeat of Kazakhstan. New Zealand duo Carla Hohepa and Kelly
Brazier are the next best on 15 points.
- Black Ferns wing Carla Hohepa scored the only hat-trick on day
one.

Marchino and Christy Ringgenberg, Mandy Marchak of Canada, New
Zealand centre Huriana Manuel and France forward Claire Canal.
- The average number of tries per match was six.
- New Zealand and USA both surpassed the half century of points,
the Black Ferns beating South Africa 55-3 in Pool A and the
Women's Eagles defeating Kazakhstan 51-0 in Pool B.
- Ireland and Kazakhstan were the only sides not to score any
points on day one.
- Zandile Nojoko scored South Africa's only points against
New Zealand, but her penalty means that the Black Ferns have now
conceded 102 points in WRWC history, spanning 18 matches.
- A total of 36 tries were scored in the six matches on day one,
although only 19 of them were turned into seven pointers.
- New Zealand scored the most tries on day with nine, two more
than USA managed. Ireland, Kazakhstan, Sweden and South Africa all
failed to cross the try-line.
- Sweden captain Ulrika Andersson-Hall kicked three penalties in
their 15-9 defeat of France in Pool C - a third of all the
penalties kicked on day one.
- Twenty-eight players crossed the try-line for their respective
countries on day one.
- No drop goals were kicked on the opening day of action at the
2010 tournament.
- The average number of points per match was 40.83 - 21.33 of
them in the first half and 19.50 in the second.
- Nine yellow cards was given on day one, three of them to
Australian players with Alex Hargreaves, Iliseva Batibasaga and
Caroline Vakalahi all spending time in the sin-bin.
