 Thailand and China on top in Pattaya
China in action at the IRB Asian Women's Sevens Championship 2009

Hosts Thailand and China both remained undefeated to top their respective pools on day one of the IRB Asian Women’s Sevens Championship 2009 Division One in Pattaya.

Thailand defeated Iran, Chinese Taipei, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kazakhstan in Pool A. China, Bowl Champions at the first ever Women’s Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai in March, 2009, defeated Guam, Uzbekistan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

In the Division One quarter finals on Sunday Thailand will face Hong Kong, China will play Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan will take on Guam and Uzbekistan will face UAE.

Thailand entered the tournament as the top ranked team based on their performance at the 2008 Asian Women’s Sevens championship. 

Lao win Division Two

Meanwhile, Lao defeated India, Malaysia and Cambodia to claim the Division Two title. Malaysia finished runners up, by beating Cambodia and India.
